Transfer Fonts from one Mac to another - Duration: 1:43. Rue Dawg Productions 31,058 views.
Apple Mac computers come with a large font selection that you can use with software installed on the computer, such as Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac. If your business uses a specific font type that you want to include in your PowerPoint presentations, add the font to the computer, as PowerPoint does not have a specific method for installing fonts on the Mac. Instead, you install the font with the other fonts on the Mac, and PowerPoint pulls the font types from the Mac installation.
1.Download your desired font from a website that offers downloadable fonts (links in Resources). The single font is downloaded to your computer as a single file, or in a standard or compressed folder.
2.Navigate to the downloaded font on your computer. If the downloaded font is in a standard folder, double-click the folder to access the font; if it's in a compressed folder, double-click the folder, choose a location to extract the font to, then navigate to that location to access the font file.
3.Double-click the font file to open the Font Book utility. The font displays in a window, providing a preview of what it will look like in PowerPoint.
5.Click the 'Default Install Location' drop-down menu and select 'User' if you only want the font installed on your user account, or 'Computer' if you want all users to have access to the font.
6.Click the red circle in the Font Book Preferences window to save your selection.
7.Click 'Install Font' on the Font Preview window to install the font on your Mac.
8.Open a PowerPoint project and click the 'Format' tab.
9.Click the 'Font' drop-down menu and select the installed font to use it in your PowerPoint presentation.

I need to convert a free ttf for use on a Mac - the best solution would be to convert it to otf so we can both use it. free solution for Windows preferred.

TrueType fonts are supported directly on Mac OS X, as well as just about any other font type. If you double click on the font, it should open in Font Book, and you can just choose 'Install Font'.
I do recommend Validating the font first, since Windows fonts do not always include everything necessary to fully use the font, but there is no reason you should have to convert the font...
Per Adobe ( http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/327/327791.html as of 2009-11-11) Mac OS X supports the following font formats:
Which I believe is the majority of the popular font formats... The fonts flagged with an asterisk are also natively supported on Windows....

Most TrueType fonts work on a Mac but some don't (some of the free ones). Use one of the font converters to change it to .otf
